These documents were published by ESO (Electronics Supply Office) and have 2-page descriptions and often illustrations of every type of communication equipment used by the Navy. ESO also published similar Directories for radar, sonar, countermeasures, radiac, etc. equipment.
Notes on directory organization - equipment
is sorted into categories (antenna, auxiliary, receiver, etc.) but there is some
overlap - e.g. Direction Finder DP-10 is in 1.3 Navigational Aids but DP-1 is in
1.4 Receivers. And Mast AB-158/GR is in 1.1 Antenna but Mast AB-157/GR is
in Auxiliary. So use the index to see what categories to look in.
Alphabetical listings in the index and directory
pages will put AN/SRD-4, AN/SRD-41, and AN/SRD-411 before AN/SRD-5. Equipment
ABC-1 appears before AN/ART-13 which appears before BC-299, for example.
